About GiftedPicks · healthy & wealthy mind & body
Hi, I'm Cierra.
GiftedPicks is the little editorial site I run with my husband Kevin. I'm the editor and brand voice; he's the research lead. Together we research plastic-free home swaps, drugstore beauty dupes, and supplement protocols — and only recommend what we'd actually buy ourselves.
Our tagline is healthy & wealthy mind & body, which sounds aspirational but really just means: spend less, get the result, take care of yourself without burning out. That's the whole brand.
Why we started this
A couple years ago, I went down a microplastics rabbit hole after watching one too many documentaries. I started swapping plastic Tupperware for glass, plastic toothbrushes for bamboo, plastic spatulas for wood — and quickly realized two things: (1) the "plastic-free" corner of the internet is overwhelming and contradictory, and (2) most of the recommendations are either thinly-veiled affiliate dumps or aspirational lifestyle content with no actual research behind them.
Around the same time, Kevin was deep into the Huberman supplement protocols and getting frustrated with the same problem in supplements (different bottles, different doses, zero clarity on what actually worked). And we'd both started noticing the dupe culture on TikTok — people swatch-testing $58 Charlotte Tilbury against $11 NYX and getting the same result.
So we started GiftedPicks to be the site we kept wishing existed: three verticals (Plastic Detox, Beauty Dupes, Supplements), every recommendation researched and verified ourselves, peer-reviewed sources cited where the science matters, no sponsored placements, no aspirational fluff. Just "here's what works, here's what doesn't, here's what we'd actually buy with our own money."
That's it. That's the whole pitch.
xx, Cierra

Meet Kevin — our Research Lead
Kevin runs the research side. If a page on this site cites a peer-reviewed study, links to a federal regulatory document (EPA, FDA), or includes ingredient-level analysis on a supplement label — that's him.
He's the reason we cite Slutsky 2010 on Magnesium L-Threonate brain bioavailability, De Vuyst & Neysens 2005 on sourdough starter microbiology, and the actual Huberman Lab episode timestamps in our supplement guides instead of just "Huberman recommends." He's also been published 90+ times on Medium across our verticals, which keeps him reading primary research instead of secondary blog summaries.
On high-stakes pages — anything supplement, skincare-active, or microplastic-exposure related — Kevin reviews my editorial draft before it ships. You'll see his name credited as "Reviewed by" on those pages.
How we actually pick what we recommend
- We research like we're spending our own money. Every pick starts from one question: would we buy this ourselves? We dig through ingredient lists, spec sheets, primary research, and thousands of verified-buyer reviews — and we cut picks that don't survive that scrutiny. If we haven't personally used something, we never pretend we have.
- We verify ASINs live. Every Amazon link on this site is verified against Amazon's Creators API for live availability. Dead listings get removed weekly via an automated audit.
- We cite primary sources for science claims. If we say "peptides improve fine lines," there's a peer-reviewed citation behind it (linked inline). Same for supplement doses, microplastic-exposure data, and ingredient claims.
- We refuse sponsored placements. No brand has ever paid us for a recommendation. Our only revenue is Amazon affiliate commissions on products we recommend on the merits — same rate whether you click through us or go direct.
- We say when something is bad. If a popular product underperforms, we say so. Look at our Olaplex piece, our Drunk Elephant pieces, or our gummy-vitamins audit — we don't pull punches because it would hurt revenue.
How we make money
GiftedPicks is a participant in the Amazon Services LLC Associates Program, an affiliate advertising program designed to provide a means for sites to earn commissions by linking to Amazon.com. When you click an Amazon link on our site and make a purchase, we may earn a small commission at no extra cost to you.
That's it. We don't run sponsored content. We don't take brand-paid placements. We don't accept free product in exchange for reviews. The only way GiftedPicks makes money is if we recommend products you actually want to buy — which keeps our incentives aligned with yours.
For Pinterest visitors specifically: when you click through a pin, you land on a page with our editorial review and the Amazon link below it. That extra click step is intentional — Amazon's Associates Program prohibits direct affiliate links in social pins, and the editorial context helps you decide if the product is right for you before you go to Amazon.
